Jonathan Burgess Becomes First LEED for Neighborhood Development Accredited Professional in South Florida


West Palm Beach, Florida September, 2010 -- Jonathan Burgess, Senior Designer at Land Design South has become the first person in South Florida to pass the LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) exam. He is also the first Landscape Architecture professional in Florida to have passed. Jon is one of only three people who have successfully passed the LEED-ND exam in the entire State of Florida.


The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED-ND integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building and acts as a tool for green neighborhood planning and design. Land Design South is proud to be promoting sustainable land planning / landscape architecture by becoming the first landscape architecture firm in the State of Florida to have an accredited professional with the LEED-ND designation.


Jonathan Burgess is also actively involved in the US Green Building Council (USGBC) as Communications Chair of the South Florida Chapter. He strongly believes in ecologically responsible and socially equitable design, and contributes his time to several non-profit organizations to help his community.




Jeff Brophy, ASLA, Elected Section Chair of the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects


August 17, 2010 -- Land Design South Director, Jeff Brophy, has been elected to the executive committee of the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (FLASLA) as Section Chair for the Palm Beach/Treasure Coast section. Section Chairs were selected and voted into office by their FLASLA peers.


Jeff is a registered Landscape Architect in the State of Florida with over 10 years of experience in the South Florida area. He is actively involved in the regulatory process within Palm Beach County and sits on various boards meant to improve the review process and encourage business development and private/public relationships.

"Land Design South is a proud participant of the design team for Wakodahatchee Wetlands. This successful "created" wetland preserves our South Florida landscape contributing to a body of work in sustainable practices that landscape architects strive to accomplish. Completed in 1999, it withstands the test of time. Wakodahatchee has served its community for over ten years and continues to function as a waste-water treatment system providing wildlife habitat, recreation access and a public education platform."
